ECT PWR Switch Extension Harness with Dash Light Pigtail
I don’t use the ECT PWR feature often (mostly when towing our boat or jet ski) but when I want to use it I’d prefer it in a more convenient, visible, location. My solution was to relocate it to furthest left on the drivers side – higher, more visible, and easier to reach. My secondary motivation is to free up center-dash buttons locations for future option switches.
For this mod to happen I needed to extend the factory harness by 30″. The harness shown below is plug-and-play with no cutting of factory wires – simply unplug the ECT PWR switch, plug the extension harness into the factory harness, route the extension harness to the drivers side and plug in the ECT PWR switch. There are many Internet posts on how to rewove Tacoma dash panels so those steps aren’t included here. Also, tap off of the provided dash illumination pigtails (power & variable ground) for future option switches.

Some option buttons are keyed on the left, right, or both, to fit into predefined OEM dash openings. You will need to use a small file to rekey the button opening for the specific button(s) you are moving. This is a quick easy process.
The ECT PWR Button Can Be Used in the Following Situations:
- When driving in mountainous regions
- When pulling a trailer
- When passing another vehicle on the highway
- When climbing a steep hill with a trailer
- When merging into heavy traffic
ECT PWR increases power in various driving situations by manipulating transmission shift points. It can enhance acceleration performance and responsiveness.
ECT PWR Switch Y Adapter (“A” or “B” or “C”)
- The Y adapters allows you to connect the ECT PWR circuit to a third-party ECT shifter knob button and the OEM button, simultaneously.
- You need to know the shifter harness connection before ordering
- Review the Y Adapter connections in the chart below – click to enlarge the images.
- The Y-Adapter “A” Works with the MESO Stealth Pro Shift Knob V2.
